Typhoid detected by travel clinic

Vancouver Olympic swimmer Annamay Pierse has been confirmed by a travel clinic having dengue fever after the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Delhi's huge construction projects for the Games, added to the monsoon, has left stagnant water all over the city, breeding a huge swarm of aedes mosquitoes just in time for dengue fever season.

The 26-year-old Edmonton native who now lives in Vancouver is the world record holder in the 200-metre breaststroke. She finished fifth in the event at the Games. The news comes a day after Navin Prasad, the chief medical officer for the Canadian team at the Games, confirmed that another athlete has come down with typhoid fever. Due to travel clinic issues, he couldn't name the patient.

Typhoid symptoms include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and dehydration. About 30 of the 250 athletes sent to India have reported stomach problems.
